A native of California, Kristen Van Veen began her singing career at a young age in the world of musical theatre. Her natural ability as a performer and singer coupled with a magnanimous stage presence were quite evident early on. She would soon learn that opera was a more appropriate fit. Kristen began her studies at University of California Santa Barbara, and would continue the rest of her education at CSU Long Beach. During her time there she was given the opportunity to perform several operas with Opera Pacific under the direction of John Demain. While in southern California, she was a principle singer with Los Angeles Music Theatre, Opera Gang and South Bay Opera. After college she was selected to become the first resident soprano for the Victoria-Jungfrau in Interlaken, Switzerland. Upon returning to the United States, Kristen would now reside in New York City to continue her private studies with New York voice teacher Karen Nimereala. She has since performed several recitals, been a selected soloist, and continues to perform roles with smaller companies in NYC such as Opera Company of Brooklyn, under the direction of Jay Meetze.
